DHCP server 49 — pool RECEPTION-KOLHAPUR
Enterprise Beginner 4 devices 4 checked tasks 100 points Free lab
Kolhapur's PCs are set to DHCP and nothing answers. Build pool RECEPTION-KOLHAPUR on the router for 10.68.0.0/24, keep .1–.9 for infrastructure, hand out the router as gateway and 8.8.8.8 as DNS, then make both PCs lease an address. You build it in a browser, type real commands at each device, and every task below is
checked against the running configuration — so you find out it is wrong before anybody else does.

The simulator runs in your browser with nothing to install. This is a free lab: it stays open on the free plan. It needs an account, which keeps your progress.
The scenario
Kolhapur's PCs are set to DHCP and nothing answers. Build pool RECEPTION-KOLHAPUR on the router for 10.68.0.0/24, keep .1–.9 for infrastructure, hand out the router as gateway and 8.8.8.8 as DNS, then make both PCs lease an address.
Your role: a network engineer on the enterprise team. Level: Beginner Done when: all 4 goals show as passed (100 points).
Network status
Devices: 1 router, 1 switch, 2 PCs, cabled as drawn. No Layer 1 or Layer 2 faults: every link is connected and up. R-Kolhapur starts with addresses (G0/0 10.68.0.1/24). SW-Kolhapur starts with an empty configuration.
Known problems
None: nothing is misconfigured. The network is simply not finished: what the goals list is what you have to build or secure.
Goals
The excluded range 10.68.0.1–10.68.0.9 is set (20 pts) Pool RECEPTION-KOLHAPUR serves 10.68.0.0/24 with the router as gateway (30 pts) PC1 leases an address (25 pts) PC2 leases an address and reaches the gateway (25 pts)
The activity, in order
The excluded range 10.68.0.1–10.68.0.9 is set The configuration of R-Kolhapur must contain the line: ip dhcp excluded-address 10.68.0.1 10.68.0.9. Type it in the right mode (global, interface or line) and check it appears. Why: This is the task that checks your configuration directly: the line must really be there, not just look right. Verify with: show running-config Pool RECEPTION-KOLHAPUR serves 10.68.0.0/24 with the router as gateway The configuration of R-Kolhapur must contain the line: ip dhcp pool RECEPTION-KOLHAPUR[\s\S]*network 10.68.0.0 255.255.255.0[\s\S]*default-router 10.68.0.1. Type it in the right mode (global, interface or line) and check it appears. Why: This is the task that checks your configuration directly: the line must really be there, not just look right. Verify with: show running-config PC1 leases an address PC1 must receive its address by DHCP (set its IP to DHCP, then check the lease). Why: If the host has no address, look at the pool, the exclusions and, across a router, the ip helper-address. Verify with: ipconfig PC2 leases an address and reaches the gateway PC2 must receive its address by DHCP (set its IP to DHCP, then check the lease). From PC2, ping 10.68.0.1. If it fails, walk the path hop by hop: gateway, then each router’s routing table, then the way back. Why: If the host has no address, look at the pool, the exclusions and, across a router, the ip helper-address. Verify with: ipconfig
Tips
Work in the order given: later goals depend on the earlier ones. After every change, run the verify command before moving on; do not guess. Stuck? Read the verify output first. It names the interface, neighbour or route that is wrong. Common mistake: Forgetting to exclude the router’s own address — an IP conflict Common mistake: Pool network not matching the interface subnet Common mistake: Missing default-router so clients cannot leave the LAN
Why this matters
Typing addresses on every PC does not scale. DHCP leases them from a pool on the router, together with the gateway and DNS server — and the excluded range keeps it from handing out the addresses you gave to infrastructure.
What you will be able to do
Exclude addresses, create and fill a DHCP pool
Renew a client and read its lease

What is configured at the start
These are already configured when the lab opens — including, where this is a troubleshooting lab, the fault itself:
R-Kolhapur interface g0/0
ip address 10.68.0.1 255.255.255.0
no shutdown
exit
Tasks, and how each one is checked
Every task is decided by reading the live network — a neighbour in FULL, a ping that succeeds, a line in the running configuration — not by looking for a keyword you typed. The same command shows you what the lab sees.
# Task Pts How to verify it yourself
1 The excluded range 10.68.0.1–10.68.0.9 is set 20 On R-Kolhapur: show running-config contains the line(s) matching ip dhcp excluded-address 10\.68\.0\.1 10\.68\.0\.9.
2 Pool RECEPTION-KOLHAPUR serves 10.68.0.0/24 with the router as gateway 30 On R-Kolhapur: show running-config contains the line(s) matching ip dhcp pool RECEPTION-KOLHAPUR[\s\S]*network 10\.68\.0\.0 255\.255\.255\.0[\s\S]*default-router 10\.68\.0\.1.
3 PC1 leases an address 25 On PC1: ipconfig shows an address.
4 PC2 leases an address and reaches the gateway 25 On PC2: ipconfig shows an address. and On PC2: ping 10.68.0.1 must succeed.
Stuck? Ask the coach
Tell the coach what you see or what you tried. It gives you a hint, not the answer, the way a senior engineer would. Included with a free trial or any plan.

Common mistakes
Forgetting to exclude the router’s own address — an IP conflict
Pool network not matching the interface subnet
Missing default-router so clients cannot leave the LAN
Reference solution
Try it yourself first — the lab checks your work either way. This is one configuration that makes every task pass, device by device:
R-Kolhapur ip dhcp excluded-address 10.68.0.1 10.68.0.9
ip dhcp pool RECEPTION-KOLHAPUR
network 10.68.0.0 255.255.255.0
default-router 10.68.0.1
dns-server 8.8.8.8
exit
PC1 ipconfig /renew
PC2 ipconfig /renew
